Being present and in the moment is often referred to as mindfulness. Mindfulness can help us be more present and stop the mental chatter and ruminating of overthinking. Slowness improves our ability to focus because it nurtures our attention.  Mindfulness requires practice.  There are many things that can bring us into a state of mindfulness.

  1. Breathing. Focusing on the inhalation and exhalation of our breath keeps us focused on the present moment.
  2. Paying attention to everything around you with all your senses.  What do you hear?  What do you smell?  What do you see?
  3. Notice your thoughts but don’t judge.  Let them go freely and pass thru.  Observe them as if you were on a train looking out the window and your thoughts are the trees you’re passing by
  4. Savor the moment when you are doing something.  Pay attention to the sensations, thoughts and feelings you have while engaged in a specific activity.

Not being present causes us to miss out on life. We are to be present in the beauty of living the life TMH intends for us to live. When we bring our minds into focus with TMH, we become present.  When we put everything in his hands and speak honestly and openly with Him, we become present with who He created us to be.

“Therefore, see how you should walk circumspectly: not as fools, but as wise, 16 Who redeem their time, because the days are evil. 17 Because of this, do not be senseless, but understand what is the will of Eloah. “

Ephesians 5:15-17 (KJV)
